Use this site as a reflection resource

Speak Lord is an offering of reflections on Christian Holy Scripture. Specifically the Scripture that is used in Catholic weekday masses. There are lots of sites that give reflections on the Sunday readings. I have focused on weekdays to provide a contemporary interpretation for anyone who uses Christian Scripture as a spiritual practice.

The reflections are organized by church liturgical seasons, the Catholic lectionary model. Each season or group of seasons is listed below. The subhead gives a rough outline of when this season occurs in a calendar year, in case you are not familiar with how the liturgical seasons are organized. Click on the season you want to investigate and you’ll be taken to that season’s page and all the weekday celebrations in that season. Each weekday celebration has two sets of readings, one for each of the weekday cycles, I or II. Click on the citation for the cycle you want and it will take you to the reflection for that days readings. Not all weekday readings have reflections available. Over time I will be adding reflections to the days that are missing them.

Using This Website

Weekdays you’ll find the readings for today’s Catholic Mass. Click on the Biblical citations and the link will take you to the actual readings as published on the US Catholic Bishop’s website. The link is for your convenience, you may prefer other translations. Personally I like The New Jerusalem Bible. If you haven’t read this alternate English translation you might try it. Whichever translation you choose, read the scripture passages and consider what they say to you. Both what appeals to you and what you don’t like about them. Once you sit with them for a while and have a sense of your own reactions come back and read my reflection for any insight it offers.
